Mario Kart 8 is a kart racing game developed and published by Nintendo that was initially released only on the Wii U. It keeps the gameplay elements from the Mario Kart series, where players drive karts while controlling characters from the Mario franchise and collecting various objects to hinder rivals or gain an advantage. In addition to introducing anti-gravity racing over walls and ceilings, Mario Kart 8 now allows players to collide with one another for a quick boost. Both single-player and multiplayer options are available, including online play over the Nintendo Network. Both critically and commercially, Mario Kart 8 was a hit. Although its battle mode was restricted, critics appreciated the game’s new tracks, aesthetics, gameplay, and orchestral music. With over eight million copies sold globally, it is the best-selling Wii U game.
