Nintendo’s Pikmin 3 is a real-time strategy and puzzle video game for the Wii U video game system. It is the follow-up to the GameCube games Pikmin (2001) and Pikmin 2 (2004). The game expands on current Pikmin series elements by including more player characters, Pikmin types, Off-TV Play, and downloadable content. The player controls three alien captains in the single-player game as they explore the surface of the planet PNF-404 in search of cultivable fruit seeds to prevent famine on their home planet Koppai. They make friends with the Pikmin, who help them out in battle, with puzzles, and with gathering resources. Critics gave Pikmin 3 largely favorable reviews, praising the gameplay, graphics, and level design.
