Splatoon is a Nintendo-developed and owned third-person shooter video game franchise founded by Hisashi Nogami. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth inhabited by anthropomorphic sea animals and revolves around fictitious cephalopods known as Inklings and Octolings, which are based on squids and octopuses, respectively, and can transform between humanoid and cephalopod forms at will. They commonly engage in turf wars with one another, using a variety of weaponry that make and fire colored ink while in humanoid form, or swim and hide under surfaces covered in their own-hued ink while in cephalopodic form. At The Game Awards 2015, Splatoon won Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer titles.
