Super Mario Maker is a side-scrolling platform game and game development system developed and released by Nintendo for the Wii U. Each game comes with a 96-page booklet of creative ideas, which is also available as a PDF download. Players can develop, play, and share courses based on the styles of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U online for free. The gaming mechanics and adversary behavior differ depending on the game mode. Some game features can only be used in a certain type of game, while others can be included into several types of games, such as Boos in Super Mario Bros. When it was first released, critics lauded its user interface and course editing tools.
