Action-adventure video game Yakuza was created and released by Sega. The plot revolves around Kazuma Kiryu, a yakuza member who served ten years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Yakuza is set in an open environment and incorporates role-playing features. Combat gives the player experience, which is used to develop Kiryu’s fighting abilities. The critical response was overwhelmingly favorable. Despite some criticism for its clumsy mechanics, the game was favorably appreciated for its presentation and plot. In Japan, the HD edition was published in August 2013 for the Wii U. This Wii U game is remarkable for being the first non-Sony platform port of the PlayStation-exclusive Yakuza series.
